Evaluating soil health and soil carbon dynamics in Midwestern cropping systems
As part of the Soil Health Nexus Digital Cafe Series, Brian Dougherty of Iowa State University, presents “Evaluating soil health and soil carbon dynamics in Midwestern cropping systems”. This presentation was originally broadcast on March 24, 2021.
Continuous corn and corn-soybean cropping systems are common in the upper Midwest but are managed in different ways. How do management practices affect soil health in these systems? This webinar explores research from Iowa State University on the effects of tillage, manure applications, cover crops, and stover removal on soil health. The long-term effects of cropping system management on soil carbon dynamics are discussed, along with the challenges associated with accurately quantifying changes in soil carbon over time.
